All Children’s Theatre Teen Playwriting ACT created the Youth Playwriting Competition and Festival to give teens in Rhode Island an opportunity to express their thoughts, develop creative playwriting skills, and work with a team of theatre professionals to develop and stage their script.
12th Annual Teen Playwriting Competition Eligibility—Public, private and homeschooled students enrolled in grades 9—12 (as of September 2007) are eligible. Previous winners are NOT eligible.
Guidelines for Entry— · One-act play, maximum running time 20 minutes · Minimal sets, minimal props · All entries must be original · No musicals, screenplays or adaptations of previously published material · Collaborations are accepted · Scripts may also be submitted to other competitions and programs · Submit 3 copies of your script—they will not be returned · Scripts must be typed, securely bound and have numbered pages · All entries must include a cover page with the following information: title, author, home address, phone number, date of birth, English teacher’s name, school name, and school address. Winners— · A maximum of 5 winners will be selected. · Each winner receives the 2008 Teen Playwriting Award and a cash prize. · Notification of winners takes place on January 18, 2008. · Winners must participate in 4-5 rehearsals to develop their script for stage and attend tech week & final performances. 12th Annual Teen Playwriting Festival All Children’s Theatre selects up to five winning entries in the Playwriting Competition and produces them in the Playwriting Festival. Winning playwrights work with professional theatre artists to stage and cast their play. Cast members are chosen from ACT Ensemble members.
